This is a bathtub full of cloth diapers. Why is my bathtub full of cloth diapers? My washing machine isn't broken, but it is I am sorry to tell you "Earth friendly." That is, it's an HE machine, which uses much less water than a standard top loader (are they standard anymore? I don't know). For your average jeans and a t-shirt: this is great. Save the Earth. Save some cash. Still come out fresh as a daisy. Beautiful. For wash loads in which you're putting nearly as much pee (15-17 cups!) as cotton in at the start, mmm, less great. But you want hard numbers. I gotcha. Often the ratio of cups of pee to cups of water in my washing machine is 1:1. This is not a good ratio. I even try to take it hard on the Earth, turn the odds in my favor, and with abandon, run a pre-soak and a final rinse. However, after 9 months of being employed full-time in the business of business, the diapers get traces of urine that become more than a trace. Now, every time Andrew pees, the diaper is instantly ammonia warfare. Bad. So this bathtub full of diapers is me "stripping" them, which is a fancy way of saying I am soaking them in hot, Rock 'n' Green detergented water to do some work on that pee to water ratio more to my liking. Or in East Texas terms, these diapers are being born again. I am cleansing away the devil and baptizing them anew. And I am doing it in the bathtub because it would be a lot more ridiculous to do it in the shower (duh). Stay tuned for the next glamorous chapter when I will be sunning out poop stains.
In conclusion I will remind you all: pimpin' ain't easy. But it's necessary.
