I am one; I admit it, not reluctantly. Sure, most of us have had one or I'll even grant up to 3, special stuffed toys to get us over the rough spots of childhood, but please tell me why anyone needs an army of stuffed animals taking up space and being un-special in abilities or looks.
When I see all the stuffed animals out for Valentine's Day or in baby stores as suggested gifts, I mourn the loss of imagination and the person who gets one for me, as if to say: I find you totally unremarkable! Here's something patronizing to take up room in your life!
I am sure this, like most everything else I write, is an absurd overreaction to nothing. Nonetheless I will do my best to keep Andrew unburdened by the stuffed toy habit so many children suffer(ed) from, except those of his own choosing, especially if they are the supercute Manhattan Toy Company variety. Otherwise, I hope to keep this scourge away.
Sincerely,
Bizardclaw Ma
*I actually have a lot better topics to blog on, but this is the only one I have enough patience to type on my phone, which is pretty much the only way I can blog between work and Andrew. Any leisure time at the computer is designated for online shopping!

I had to buy one of those space saver nets to hold all of Oli's stuffed toys (dust collectors I call them). It's really ridiculous that a single child has 20+ stuffed animals. I keep them all though because the were gifts and I feel bad getting rid of them. :/
Mae only has one. The same one her daddy had 26 years ago. I love how special that makes it :) Its her Daddy-Monkey. (As opposed to daddy who IS a monkey LOL)
However, my older daughter has a lot of them and loves them all. I think it depends on the child... Hers are almost all cats and she treats them like her kittens. Yes, I have a crazy cat child. Thats fine though, I aspire to be a crazy cat lady when I grow up!
But still, she does have about 6 which are super special that she asks to sleep with or take out with us more regularly (pj, allie, allie-again, bella, alex, and her Ryan monkey) I love her sense of humor naming her cats though. Alex is Alexander, a girl. PJ is a boy... wearing a bright pink bow. Allie and Allie-again are twins (she got matching stuffed kitties for Christmas a few years ago) and when I asked why their names were Allie... its because they are cats. Alley-cats. LMAO.... and despite them being almost identical she can tell them apart.
My son only has 1... Sgt. Ryan Monkeypants (yes, a little monkey dressed up as a Marine... named after my husband lol)
Growing up... I was most like my older daughter. Hubby had one stuffed animal, the monkey he has given to our daughter. I had a ton and loved them all.
I still have a stuffed bear from when I was a kid. His name is Cocomo. I think I named him after a Beach Boys song, which is ironic, as I hate the beach boys. I do think too many toys is too many, though. On the other hand, have you seen my collection of dog chew toys? It's indecent, I tell you. Plain indecent.
Many police departments accept donated stuffed animals for officers to provide to children when responding to calls. Likewise, shelters for domestic abuse victims and displaced persons are a good solution for paring down baby's collection.
Y'all are all better people than me. Srsly.
Andrew only has a few, but I'm just saying: I am a crank who doesn't like them, despite having a few I really did enjoy as a young person.
Jen, thank you for the info about donating them to police departments. What a good and worthy cause!
Jen, thanks for that tip!! That is a much better cause to donate to than the horrible Goodwill we have here.
Max squeals with glee and burrows his face into his stuffed animals. They are all super soft and snoogly though. This morning while I was sort of snoozing he handed me his knitted dog so that I could give him a squeeze. This has given me a fresh appreciation for such toys but we do not have a million of them!
